California often sparks debate as a place to call home, and it's always interesting to see how it stacks up in national rankings. Recently, California placed 31st overall among the states, landing last in affordability and 38th in safety, but it ranked an impressive 2nd in quality of life and 15th in economy. Idaho and New Jersey were at the top, with New Mexico coming in lowest.
Having spent over 35 years immersed in the Los Angeles real estate community, and as someone with deep roots in our diverse neighborhoods, these numbers are a reminder that California offers a complex blend of challenges and rewards. The quality of life here—whether it’s our cultural vibrancy, weather, or access to amenities—remains a significant draw for many of my clients, despite concerns about affordability and safety. Navigating these factors is part of what I do every day, helping clients weigh the tangible and intangible aspects of making California, and especially Los Angeles, their home.
